God Incarnate

In a recent poll in Australia, a staggering 54% in response to the question, “Who is the most influential person in history?” answered “Jesus Christ”.  This figure is all the more remarkable considering that Albert Einstein came a very poor second with 16% and Charles Darwin an even poorer third with 9%.

But why?  What was it about Jesus Christ that set him apart, and led so many to believe that he was the most influential person in history?

The written record of his life gives us the answer: his conception in the virgin’s womb, his perfect life, his irrefutable miracles, his teaching of such wisdom and timeless relevance, and uniquely his death and resurrection.

Indeed, such was the impact of his teaching that on one occasion when officers of the Jewish ruling council were sent to arrest him, they instead listened to him with rapt attention.  When challenged as to why they returned empty-handed, their frank response was “never man spake like this man1.

Jesus Christ clearly was no ordinary man.

This man says Paul (the apostle) is the “Lord from heaven 2.  Christ’s own crystal clear testimony was that he “came down from heaven3, that he was “from above4.  The Bible, the book comprehensively endorsed by Jesus Christ as the book of God, is replete with teaching concerning his pre-existence and deity.

Jesus Christ is the Incarnate God.

This is surely why He is unique in human history.  No one could be like him.  Why then did our God, as man, enter this morally corrupt world?  The Bible gives the succinct answer: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners5.  You then can be saved.
